My mom really did not want me to wear a sheitel, and told me so before the wedding, but was genuinely shocked that I was nervous about telling her I was going to wear a tichel. And I'm a BT and tichels are so, so much easier to explain. I don't think sheitels are assur or anything, but I suspect I'll always have a better use for the money (particularly once you factor in maintenance). Sometimes snoods when I'm being super casual, berets for stylish casual, and cloche hats with my hair carefully tucked up for more formal and more normal looking (like for going to a super outreachy Chabad near us that would get really upset if I came in a tichel).
